Academy update | December 2015
David Cotton
David Cotton Executive Principal
As the end of 2015 draws to a close, and in light of the troubles in the world this year, it seems fitting to look back and count our blessings.

The students at the academy have been fantastic this year and by this I mean not only producing outstanding GCSEs and A level results, but also putting themselves forward for leadership responsibilities, charity and community work. This was illustrated last month at our fantastic Year 11 Celebration Evening, where many of our students received accolades for their dedication both in and out of school. It was a very proud moment.

So for now, the staff and I wish all students and parents a Happy Christmas and best wishes for 2016. We look forward to welcoming the students back on Tuesday 5th January.
Its DALP show time!

The DALP Creative Arts Festival is being held on Tuesday 15th December. This year's theme is circus and is entitled 'The Big Top'. Students from across all six DALP academies have been rehearsing throughout the term to perform on stage at the Majestic Theatre in Retford to an audience of parents, teachers and other students. Those students performing are being rewarded with a trip to Nottingham Theatre Royal in January to watch Aladdin in panto! DALP Chief Executive Officer, Chris Pickering said of the performance, 'It is always a fantastic show and I know that many of our students will have happy memories of the experience.'

Student Forum Conference

December 15th 2015 will be the next Student Forum Conference. For those new to the academy the event is the opportunity for the four College Presidents and student representatives to come together with academy Governors, myself and staff to debate and voice their opinions on any issues in our academy. Proposed agenda items this year include: The new prefect blazer and maintaining high standard toilet conditions. Guest speakers at the conference will be Lyndon Stocks providing clarity on recycling at the academy and Joby Luckett on the progress of the academy's Bullying Ambassadors. It looks set to be a stimulating event.
Y11 Celebration Evening

This year we were honoured to welcome Olympic legend, Derek Redmond, as our special guest speaker at the recent Year 11 Celebration of Achievement Evening. Amongst the many prestigious awards presented during the evening, Mr Gaughan, Head of Willow College, presented the Highest Achiever Award. Ash College student Rebecca Davidson, who got 100% in her History GCSE and also achieved 9 A*s and 1 A grade in her GCSEs last July was amongst many of the stars of the evening! Others included: Martha Raymer (Beech College) who got 7A*, 2 A grades and 1 B grade, Chris Ward (Oak College) got 8 A* grades and 2 As and David Mafullul (Willow College) got 7 A*grades, 2 As and 1 B grade! David was also the only student at the academy to achieve an AA grade for double GCSE PE. I hope you’ll agree - simply stunning results.

'The life you have ahead is for living, enjoy today, you've earned it. Remember the feeling of receiving this accolade, it will spur you on to the next big event or race in your life.' Derek Redmond.
