Academy update | February 2015
This term the students have impressed me so much with their outstanding conduct and intelligent opinions. One of my favourite parts of being Principal is my daily walks around the academy speaking to the students. I feel privileged that they feel able to speak to myself and staff on such a friendly yet respectful level and that we can all enjoy working together to maximise achievement throughout the academy. One fantastic example of this was introducing the students to Lord Lieutenant, Sir John Peace. Sir John quizzed the students on their opinions on both global and local issues and praised them for their confidence, breadth of knowledge and high level of understanding. I couldn't have been more proud of them.

Top opportunity for Post 16
David Stevenson, Director, Edmond Shipway Construction Consultants, came into the academy to offer our Post 16 a once in a life time opportunity. Edmond Shipway is offering places on their trainee programme, and also providing full sponsorship for studying an honours degree at Nottingham Trent University in Quantity Surveying and Construction Commercial Management (by day release). Three of our students have applied for the enviable positions of securing a trainee role as a Chartered Surveyor with the promise of gaining a top class qualification with no debt at the end of it! We look forward to updating you on their successes and wish them lots of luck.

Year 9
Pathways Evening

Choosing GCSE options this half term is an important time for our Year 9s. To support decision making, students have already been given some initial information in their assemblies and we are also holding a Year 9 Pathways Evening on Wednesday 25th February from 6-8pm. At the event students and parents will get the opportunity to speak to staff from different faculties in order to find out what options are available for future pathways. Choices need to be made by Wednesday 4th March, so it would be really helpful if parents/carers could discuss possible options at home. For more information please contact Mr Baker on or Miss Orange on
DALP Staff Inset

On Monday 23rd February both teaching and support staff at Tuxford Academy linked up with staff at the other five DALP academies to share best practice and attend professional development training. Teaching and selected support staff attended subject specific networking groups, whilst additional support staff attended sessions on subjects such as 'Time Magic' and 'Working Effectively with Children'. Inset days are highly valued at the academy for enabling all staff to continually improve and update their knowledge and skills in order that they continue to provide outstanding teaching, learning and support to our students.
